Domain Parking - Use it or not?

Aug-13th-2008

There are lots of people who Park their domains these days. If you’re not sure what Domain Parking is, it is where a domain uses a “Domain Parking Companies” Nameservers and redirects the domain to a website full of advertisements which are normally chosen based on the Category you select. You make money from people clicking these advertisements. It is basically like a Pay-Per-Click Program except without you making any content. There is no other content on the page except links to more advertisements. Most people will have seen at least one parked page before, they are very common.

On the one hand, Domain Parking is good to use because it provides you with an easy way to get a website setup. You could have the Domain Parked within half an hour if you knew what you were doing, and best of all, you don’t really need to do anything else with it after that, apart from advertise it if you wanted to. Also, if the domain does get traffic, you may make a decent amount of money from it. Some people are really good at advertising Parked Websites and make a lot of money from it. The advertisements are generally in the center of the page so it can attract a nice amount of clicks. This all depends on if you choose a decent Domain Parking Company to go with. One of the most popular ones is Sedo, a domain auction website.

On the other hand, Domain Parking isn’t good to use because most Parked Websites will not get much traffic, and therefore lead to zero money. If it doesn’t get traffic, it will struggle to do anything. Parked Websites are difficult to rank in the Search Engines because they have no content, Google doesn’t like them. One of the factors which could lead to poor amounts of money is the area that the website is based on (niche). If you’re trying to park a website to get Webmaster Advertisements shown, then you will really struggle to make anything at all, because Webmasters do not click advertisements, especially on Parked Websites. They will just visit your site and click the back button straight away. If you’re going to park a website, make sure you choose an audience that may not have seen as many parked pages as Webmasters usually have. Normally a parked website that gets traffic will not keep its traffic, it will slowly decrease until it earns nothing.

In conclusion, Domain Parking is recommended to those who have a large amount of traffic and don’t want to run the website anymore, but the traffic will go down gradually, so you can’t count on it forever. For those who have a small website with no traffic, it is recommended that you try to build a website for it, build websites with large amounts of content and you’ll get a much better reward than you will from Parking your Domains. Making content will take longer, but you could always hire someone to create the content for you.
