A bit of a change in posts today. This one is more of a “Rant” about Google’s Quality Guidelines.
If you’ve ever seen them before, you’ll know how controlling they’re trying to be. When people ask Google themselves about why they’ve been dropped, they’re frowned upon because “they’re not following the guidelines, you can’t expect an answer”. Well to be honest, Google cannot control everything. They can’t tell people what websites they can and can’t create, and they shouldn’t punish people because they don’t like them. For example, see this post on the Google Webmaster Help. As you can see from that, they mention that users are not allowed to have SEO Contests. What sort of quality guideline is that?
Having a Contest to see who can rank higher isn’t really a “low quality website”. Its just having some fun and seeing who can do the best. Another ridiculous guideline is the Buying and Selling links one, one that you all have probably heard of. Google punishes people for buying and selling links. Well in my honest opinion, it isn’t any of Google’s business if people buy links, people could buy links because it will increase traffic. But once again, Google stops everything from happening.
Another main one is duplicate content. People may have the same content because the content is of a high-standard, so that should be pretty normal. Google shouldn’t be punishing websites for having the same content.
There is understanding for some of the quality guidelines however. Sites with malicious or viruses obviously should be removed, and that is a good thing for Google to do. That is what quality guidelines are for - To remove low quality websites from the Search Engine.
In conclusion, Google should stop trying to control what everyone does - If people want to buy links from each other, Google should stay out of it. Afterall, they are just a Search Engine, they don’t control the internet.
