Most people have heard about Google PageRank. This is a rating that Google gives to all sites that they have crawled. It is a number out of ten. It is based on many factors (Including some that only Google knows about), but some of the factors that we do know about are backlinks (And the strengths of them) and the content on the website. Some people think that PageRank is useless because it doesn’t actually count for anything, it is just a number. However, this a completely different conversation which we will discuss later on.
For now, here are some tips on what you can do to increase your Google PageRank.
First of all, you need backlinks. There are two options you could go with - you could go for getting thousands of backlinks that have no PageRank, or you could try to get backlinks from pages that have high PageRank themselves. Obviously backlinks from pages with high PageRank are a lot more powerful and they will help a lot if you get say, several PageRank 7 backlinks.
If you look at the table below, you will see an estimation of what people think that the strength of backlinks are. As you can see, it shows it takes around 18.5 backlinks from PRx to get you to PRx too. For example, if you only have 19 PR8 backlinks, you would probably get PR8. Thats how easy it is.

Some people choose to buy links from each other because it makes increasing your PageRank a lot easier when you don’t have to find natural ways to build links, you can just buy 18 PR8 backlinks and be a success then (Although it would probably cost a lot). Google doesn’t like it so if they catch you out or if someone reports you, then you can be sure that you’ll either suffer from being penalized in the Search Engine (Meaning your rankings will be lower) or you will suffer from a PageRank Decrease (Sometimes even to PR0!). That is why you have to be careful and need to build up links naturally, however long and difficult it may be.
In your website, you normally need some decent content on there too. If you run a blog or something with a lot of content (And is updated regularly), then you may find that these websites are easier to get PageRank to, although Google do seem to like old pages too, these often get high PageRank.
The majority of the PageRank formula seems to be based on backlinks. This is why you should make sure that you have a lot of content, but also make sure that your backlinks are good too. If you keep building backlinks, your PageRank will gradually increase, but don’t expect a giant increase (PR0 to PR7) without a massive increase.
