Traffic is obviously very important with websites. After all, everybody wants traffic to their website. This guide should explain some good tips on how you can get more traffic to your website.
Pay-Per-Click Programs are a great way to increase traffic. Some of them are quite affordable, but it really depends on the keywords you want to rank for. For some, these will be too expensive to go with, but if you have a blog that isn’t targetting huge keywords, it may be a good thing to try. Google Adwords is one of the more expensive ones because of how popular it is, but the reason for this is because of how effective it is. You could easily use some of the smaller ones, such as Adbrite or Bidvertiser. These could work well too, and they should be cheaper.
You could do Link Exchanges with other websites too. This won’t bring much traffic if you don’t exchange links with websites with content like yours or if they don’t have much traffic however. Try to exchange links with some high traffic websites that have similar content. You may find that this increases your traffic. The good point of this is that it will increase your number of backlinks as well as your PageRank too, so it has more than one benefit.
One point which could very well is Viral Marketing. This is where you release a video with content that a lot of people will want to see, and then you show a message such as “View more at …” in order to get these people to your website. If the content is something new like the latest update on something, it may get huge traffic on places like Youtube, meaning you could get a lot of these visitors to your website too.
Writing Articles could be quite effective too. If you are good at writing articles, then you could simply write a few yourself. If not, you could hire an Article Writer who will do the job for you, you could probably get a few articles for a few dollars. When you have the articles, you simply submit these to Article Directories or Article Listings, if this article is something new like the latest update on something (Like with Viral Marketing), then you may get a lot of visitors from Google to these articles and then if you have a link to yourself in the Resource Box or somewhere in the Article, then you’ll get these visitors to your website too. This could also work by posting a link to your website with the content on, onto some popular forums related to that content.
This is somewhat-similar to writing articles. You could create a lot of content for your website that people will want to read. If you use a lot of keywords and SEO in the content and do a lot of link building on it after you’ve posted it live, then you may start to rank on Google, which will get you a very high amount of traffic if the content is good.
Social Bookmarking is very effective when it comes to traffic. Particularly Digg and Stumbleupon. If you can write content for something very recent, for example, about the release of a new version of a popular program, before anyone else, then you can submit it to Digg and then stumble it with Stumbleupon. Then you just get some friends to do it too, you’ll get a HUGE amount of traffic if the content is right. Make sure that you have a Digg Button and a Stumble Button in your content, this will make it easier for people to do if they feel that the content deserves it.
You may be surprised at this, but using Wordpress (The blog script) may actually help you get higher traffic. Wordpress has a great amount of plugins that will help you, such as SEO Plugins, Social Bookmark Plugins, Ping Plugins that will all help you very much. For example, if you enable an SEO Plugin to add Meta Keywords to your content, a Social Bookmarking Plugin to add a Digg/Stumbleupon Button and to automatically submit you to some Social Bookmarking sites, and a Ping Plugin to ping you to a huge amount of Ping sites automatically (A lot better than the default Wordpress one), then you’ll get a huge benefit over the people who aren’t using Wordpress. Google will visit your content within minutes and you’ll get high positions on Google too. So for those running websites who think they could use Wordpress, it would be a great benefit to switch over to do so.
If you encourage your visitors to keep visiting and keep telling their friends, then this will help. You could do so by giving out free gifts in places, having the latest content on your website, be creative. Free gifts will definately help, everyone loves a good freebie.
Finally, you could easily register to forums related to your website to get traffic. For example, if you’re running a Webmaster website, then you would signup to Webmaster forums. Then, all you have to do is post until you have access to your signature (If they have requirements, some do), then you put a link to your website in. You just keep posting into topics you’re interested in, and as you post, you’ll get more and more backlinks because of your link being on every topic you make, but you’ll also be getting more and more traffic if the title of your link is something that will attract visitors. Forums are a great way to get backlinks and traffic. If you’re not a “Forum type-of-person” however, some people who are active on the forum do sell Signature Links, so you could pay a small amount every month for them to put your link in their signature. This can prove to be very effective if the person has thousands of posts.
Some of these tips have proved to be very effective in the past, so you should really try some of them if you want to get more traffic to your website or business.
