Typo Domains - Worth it?

Oct-2nd-2008

Well recent a lot of people have been debating as to whether registering typo domains could actually make you money or not.

First of all, a typo domain is a domain which is almost identical to another popular domain but with a spelling error. For example, instead of milofi.com, you register milofo.com because the i is close to the o on the keyboard, so you may get visitors from this error.

On the one hand, typo domains are worth it because the domain could be used for many reasons. Some clever things you could do is to make it redirect to your affiliate link which takes them to the actual page. That way, if the typo is done a lot, then you may get some sales through your affiliate link. You could just use it to develop it as a website too. One of the worst ways you could do (And this is not recommended in any way) is to use it as a phishing site. Just a thought.

On the other hand, typo domains aren’t worth it because it might not get much traffic if the domain isn’t that popular or if the typo isn’t a good one. One main problem is that if the domain that you’re a typo of has a problem and shuts down or has very low traffic, then you’ll probably get zero traffic too. Your traffic is dependant on the other site. Also, the domain of yours probably won’t be that good because it is just a typo, so you probably won’t be able to build much traffic for yourself, just relying on that one method.

In conclusion, typo domains aren’t worth it because if anything happens to the other website, you’ll have problems, and you may struggle to get traffic in the first place.
